People of Elmwick
Who's who in Elmwick, from the temple and the forge to the regulars at the Elm & Ember.
Leadership & Notable Figures
Jonah of Winterspire – Village Cleric
Kind-eyed, steady, and quietly intense. Leads the temple with firm grace.
Ruby Woodstrider (“Wightslayer”) – Warden & Scout
Red-haired half-elf ranger with quiet command. Knows the land better than anyone. Both a protector and gatekeeper of adventure.
Mayor Torbin Hollowtree – Elected Village Head
Former carpenter, now reluctant administrator. Honest, tired, and wary of the trouble adventurers bring—but grateful for them too.
Old Mother Kesh – Village Elder & Midwife
Stooped and wrinkled with sharp eyes. Remembers stories from before the current Elmwick was built. Still delivers babies and quiet curses in equal measure.
Trades & Services
Oddfin the Silent – Blacksmith
Taciturn Earthskull dwarf. Serious, dependable. Crafts tools, horseshoes, and gear repair—won’t forge weapons without good reason.
Elric Mornwell – General Store Owner
Dry humor and sharper bookkeeping. Knows everyone’s business. Sells rope, lanterns, rations, and news for the right price.
Tharn Redbriar – Carpenter and Wagonwright
Lean, quiet man with a limp. Good with his hands, keeps to himself.
Anselma Vott – Herbalist / Hedge Healer
Middle-aged woman who talks to her drying herbs like pets. Very good at poultices and curses. Refuses to enter the temple.
Commoners & Background NPCs
Henkin Larch – Fisherman
Talks too much, especially when drunk. Claims to have seen lights upriver and once caught a fish with “a silver tooth.”
Brannick & Mirelle – Young Couple, Goatherds
Dream of moving to Wyrnbrook. Naïve but kind.
Mera the Potter – Craftswoman & Listener
Soft-spoken, good with clay and stories. Her kiln is near the river. Locals say her grandfather disappeared into a barrow.
Willem Grask – Retired Militia, Now Farmer
Missing an eye. Dislikes adventurers, especially young ones who think they’re heroes.
The Elm & Ember
A timber-framed tavern with smoke-dark beams, amber-lit windows, and a sturdy oak bar scarred with a hundred knife-marks. The hearth is always burning, and stories always find their way here.
Torlan & Meris Darron – Owners & Hosts (Human couple)
Torlan is a booming-voiced ex-soldier with a weathered face and a sharp laugh. He keeps order with a glance and a club behind the bar.
Meris is all smiles, secrets, and strong drink. She’s the real brains behind the business and can out-talk any merchant or mercenary.
- Torlan handles security and drinks; Meris manages the money and flow of rumors.
- Host seasonal storytelling nights, “coin-in-the-boot” brawls, and sponsor local festivals.
Nylaen (“Nyl”) Kestra – Half-Elf Waitress
Elegant, precise, and just a little aloof. Quick with a smile, quicker with a sharp retort.
- Knows everyone’s drink and debts.
- Her mother was from Thal Volorias, but Nyl has never been there.
- Many travelers fall in love with her. None succeed.
Jally “Twice-Plucked” Brambletuck – Halfling Minstrel
Cheerful, mischievous, and endlessly chatty. Plays a battered viol and sings songs half-remembered and half-invented.
- Claims to have been kicked out of five cities and kissed a dragon once.
- Will perform anything for coin, cider, or gossip.
Old Joss – Permanent Fixture
Old man, always at the corner table, always with the same mug. Was probably once a hunter or soldier—or maybe a wizard. No one knows for sure.
- Tells stories only when no one asks
- Once gave perfect directions to a ruin no one else knew about
- Some say he hasn’t aged in ten years
